Xosé Manuel Budiño

Xosé Manuel Budiño is a piper born in the Galician town of Moaña, in the city of Pontevedra, Galicia. He is one of the most innovative artists, composers, pipers and interpreters of the Galician folk scene. Xosé Manuel Budiño is a genuine artist, a musician with his own accent; a composer who inspires admiration among the public; a fascinating artist who has his roots in the Galician tradition subtly mixed with more contemporary sounds.

At the beginning of the 80’s he attended the “Semente Nova” bagpipe school in Moaña. He participated in the bagpipe band “Xarabal“, and in 1991 he founded the group “Fol de Niu“, later collaborating with bands such as Altan, Capercaillie or Oskorri, or artists such as Kepa Junkera or Uxía. In 1996 he presented his solo project, Paralaia. For the performances he had Leandro Deltell (drums, percussions), Ene Hernández (bass), Pedro Pascual (bouzouki, mandola), Xavier Díaz (accordion) and Pablo Alonso (bass clarinet).

Budiño & The Galician Band” is their new adventure. This show, which began in 2016, is full of songs that are included in Budiño’s albums, with arrangements for his band and the power of a brass section, and is a new band made up of prestigious Galician musicians who will give new light to Budiño’s works.

Xosé Manuel Budiño has released six albums to date: Paralia, Arredor, Zume de Terra, Home, Volta and Sotaque. His creations and live performances are recognized internationally and with very good ratings by the specialized critics. He has also been awarded prestigious music prizes.

Xosé Manuel Budiño has toured internationally which has led him to perform in different parts of the world such as China, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Scotland, United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Morocco, Cape Verde, Canada.
